Colombian White Quartz has a history that is deeply intertwined with the opening of the Colombian Emerald mines. Back when they were first opened, many poor laborers were hired to work in the mines because it was dangerous, hard work. They were forbidden from taking any of the precious emeralds or other Beryl stones that they found, but they were allowed to take the white quartz as it was perceived as significantly less valuable. Little did they know how truly rare it was.
I first heard this story from a representative of Colombian Emeralds, a major precious stone distributor from Colombia. For generations the men in his family had worked in the mines, and he showed me a necklace he wore that had been his grandfather's -- it was a single gleaming piece of the white quartz. Aside from the beautiful story associated with this stone, it is also incredibly special because it is one of the only naturally occurring hyper translucent white stones. In essence, the stone seems clear, but because it is actually hyper translucent white when light hits the gem it gleams like a star. Considering Hespera means "Light of the Evening Star," I had to have it and incorporate these beautiful stones into our collections.
We paired the Colombian White Quartz with our Stormy North American Quartz to create a work or art with incredibly wearable colors that can make a stunning statement.
