Some pieces are collectible because they’re beautiful. Others become legends because they’ll never be made again.

This monumental Alex Sanchez Maiden Necklace was created around what is believed to be the largest Royston turquoise cabochon ever cut by master lapidary Kenny Otteson. Mined from the legendary Royston deposit in Nevada—long known for producing some of the world’s finest blue-green turquoise—the stone is extraordinary not only for its sheer scale, but for its soft seafoam color, warm golden matrix, and unmistakable natural character. The Royston Mine, operated by the Otteson family, is celebrated for producing some of the most coveted turquoise in the American Southwest.

Alex Sanchez built one of his iconic Maiden guardians around this singular stone, transforming it into far more than a necklace. His signature repoussé silverwork, flowing spirals, hand-fabricated ornament, and serene Maiden motif evoke the ancient petroglyph traditions of the Southwest, creating the impression that she has stood watch over this remarkable turquoise for centuries.

Suspended from a substantial handcrafted sterling chain, the entire necklace weighs an astonishing 388 grams. Every element serves one purpose: allowing one of the most significant Royston stones ever fashioned by Kenny Otteson to remain the undeniable focal point.

This isn’t simply an Alex Sanchez necklace. It’s a landmark collaboration between one of today’s most celebrated Native silversmiths and one of the finest turquoise cutters of our time.

Eric’s Note

I’ve handled a lot of incredible turquoise, but every once in a while you come across a stone that makes you stop talking. This is one of those. The fact that Kenny chose to cut such an enormous piece without sacrificing its beauty is remarkable on its own. Then Alex did exactly what a master should—he didn’t overpower it. He honored it. The Maiden feels less like decoration and more like a guardian protecting one of the greatest Royston cabochons ever brought to life. If I were building a museum-quality Native jewelry collection, this is the kind of piece I’d chase for years.
